One of the ‘definitions of history is that the story is written by the winners. The assigned texts provide views from both sides of the encounter of the Spanish and the Native peoples of Mexico in the early 16th Century. I would suggest that you read Chapters 3 [Approaching Typical Assignments in History], 4 [Following Conventions of Writing in History] [Plagiarism] and 7 [Quoting and Documenting Sources – this has a good section on web sources] in Rampolla’s “A Pocket Guide to Writing History” for help and tips in doing the assignment. Write a 5 to 7 page essay that answers these questions: How do the accounts differ and how do they tell the ‘same’ story? What bias do you see from each side of the encounter? Is there any sense of superiority on either side? Which perspective seems to be a ‘truer’ account
