Discuss the match or mismatch between parenting styles and their child’s temperament.

Permissive is known as the parenting style that has little to no demands of the their child. When a parent has adopted this type of parenting style the parent has chosen to set rules they are usually inconsistent. Their parenting is usually of being the child’s friend instead of an authority figure. “Parents take on the role of friends rather than parents, do not have any expectations of the child, and allow the child to make his or her own decisions.” (Groark, McCarthy, & Kirk, 2014, Section 2.2). Permissive could have a negative effect on the child’s health, they no feeling towards what a child chooses to eat. They do not promote healthy eating habits for their child or children which can lead to child obesity. Authoritarian which is known as the extremely strict parent, is the parent that  set’s high standards for their children. The authoritarian parenting style is some like a boot camp, they have unquestioning of their  superior authority. “Authoritarian parents have strict rules and expect children to obey their orders. They do not allow children to make many choices for themselves, and mistakes are met with consequences.” (Munro, 2013, para. 3). This type of parenting style can aid in low self-esteem based on the fact of the child going unheard. Because of the strict parenting, the child begins to feel they are becoming overwhelmed and their opinion do not matter.

The authoritarian style of parents and the authoritative have some similarities, but also some differences. The authoritarian style of parenting is more strict on their children and the child have no say so. The parenting stresses obedience. The authoritative parenting style explains why certain rules exist. This parenting style promotes independence within their children and let them learn from their own mistakes.
