Case Study Questions

  1. Please list and describe five significant conflicts that are likely to arise from the discussions between the Americans and the Sharahadans. Answers could include:

  • Interpersonal distance (proxemics)

  • Eye contact

  • Paralanguage (voice pitch and inflections, rate of speech, silence)

  • Business and social interactions during meeting

  • Attitude toward time

  • Meeting room symbolism

  • Touching/body contact

  • Gestures with hands, arms, head, etc.

2. If you were a native of Sharahad and advising American business representatives on what to do when talking to Sharahadans, what would you tell the Americans about Sharahadan culture?

3. If you were a native of the United States and advising Sharahadans about American business culture, what would you tell them to prepare them for success?

4. Explain the key differences between high- and low-context cultures. Please include examples and explain the differential effects on the communication process.

5. Explain what you learned about working with individuals from other cultures from the Journey to Sharahad Case Study.

This project projects should conform to standards of formatting and documentation, including proper citations and references found in an acceptable college-level writing guide such as MLA or  APA

The project must:

  1. be typed, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font, with margins no wider than one inch

  2. have a title page with your name, the course name, the date, and the instructor’s name.

  3. have footnotes or endnotes, with correct citations

  4. have a bibliography of sources used.

  5. be prepared using word processing software (Microsoft Word preferred). Projects may not be submitted in pdf or docm
