1)    Please do the following two steps ( Article” Feminism & Psychology”)

Step 1: Provide a paragraph summary of the article.

Step 2: Answer the following question(s) in one paragraph.

What do the students in the Loe article say about issues such as medical marketing, normal sexuality, and sex education that marginalizes pleasure? What is the role of the media in depicting women’s sexuality? Are there any conflicts in portrayals of females? How does this relate to the issues raised by a Duke student who chose to work in the adult film industry to support herself through school?http://www.xojane.com/sex/duke-university-freshman-porn-starhttp://www.xojane.com/sex/belle-knox-duke-university-freshman-porn-star

In what ways does the Loe article highlight how sexuality is shaped by social, relational, psychological, and physical factors? What does the article suggest (and what ideas do you have) in regards to promoting a healthy approach toward sexuality? How does this relate to the short clip on The Case for Starting Sex Education in Kindergarten?

  • 2) Please do the following two steps: ( article “Socially Camouflaged Technologies: The Case of the Electromechanical Vibrator”

Step 1: Provide a paragraph summary of the article.

Step 2: Answer the following question(s) in one paragraph.

In the Maines’ article, we see how advertisements for vibrators were almost normalized in the early 1900s, yet now we would be surprised to see sexual tools in the mainstream media (like a Sears catalog).   What led to this shift from acceptance to prohibition?  We also see that the medically induced female orgasm through “therapeutic massage” is deemed socially acceptable, but when women take control of their sexuality, it becomes taboo.  While women are often the focus of the development of technology, they can often be absent from the discourse and design decisions. How can we ensure that the users of technology are part of future discourse and involved in the development of technologies that impact their lives?
